FASHION RADAR

My Drip Analysis

My dad has always been the fashion king so it’s in my blood to have an eye. I’ve decided to use my caffeinated brain to do a deep dive into things that inspire me in fashion and how important it is to me and our lives.

Growing up I’ve always been super immersed and obsessed with fashion growing up, whether that was playing myscene dress-up games, reading magazines, watching 90s supermodel interviews, or seeing musical artists at the moment rocking the current hot designer at the moment it was something that has always made me twinkly-eyed. I think fashion is so important bc despite the history of it being “snooty” and leaving people of color out of the table to be seen as serious designers, it has also been such an incredible way to defy gender norms, allow creative expression through fabric, and allow designers to do storytelling.

The clothing that we put on ourselves is the embodiment of our moods, our gender expression, and a way to build confidence. I remember being so in love with 90s models (especially Naomi Cambell) because of the way they could walk with such confidence, poise, and dominance. Something I wanted to embody badly. I think style has now evolved as a way to anyone of shape, size, color, etc. can showcase their beautiful personality.

When I think of fashion, I think of waves. Waves of colors, fabrics, and textures that is created to show out. Growing up with insecurities, streetwear and fashion designer brands was something I looked towards as a way to create a image of how I wanted to present my mind. I’ve built so much more confidence since then and part of it I owe it to clothing. I draw from an androgynous expression with masculine energy equivalent of a skateboarder man-child mixed with a feminine flirty gyal.

Breakdown of my collage:

Above I drew inspiration from collections I remembered growing up and searched it into the Vogue runway app. Some designers from the app are Raf Simmons, Chanel, and Cong Tri. Another brand that has been killing it is “Aeie” a Vietnamese brand that I have been saving to buy when I get a salary increase lmfao. The center of course is from Tyler' the creator’s Fall/Winter Collection ready to wear that literally had me shambles when it first came out. Tyler is the embodiment of comfortability with gender fluidity and not giving a FUCK. Something I resonate with greatly. Whenever I think of this man, I get goosebumps with how much he literally raised me, to be honest. I can probably do a whole audio diary about how much he means to me but I’ll save it for another day.

Another person you’ll probably recognize is RUPAUL. Queer culture, specifically ballroom culture has greatly shaped straight “culture” frfr. Ballroom culture has shaped the way designers have created their clothing, tuned into the “vogue-ing” trend that ballroom created, and has created every single lingo word you can probably imagine that a GenZ is saying right now. (aka also me lol).

A model that is currently on my radar is Adut, she is so beautiful and literally any designer can rock her on the runway because of how versatile she can showcase clothing. And lastly shoutout to Pharrel, one of the best visionaries of our time. Pharrel is leading Louis Vuitton right now in the right direction in my perspective. 90s-2000s streetwear I feel like had an opening that allowed so many Black creatives to pave the way towards creating their own space to showcase fashion and culture. Black culture has literally paved the way for everything tbh. But that’s my 2cents!
